As always, Ben, thought provoking. But I think that you are too gentle with progressive Christians who are not so much purveyors of a 19th century version of the social gospel but advocates of a Marxist gospel that offers itself up as a trans-national perversion of the same problem on the right. I don’t find it any less confused about which Kingdom we are called to serve. But because it is anti-Trump and even anti-American in some cases, it has convinced itself it can’t be guilty of the same sin.
Hi Ben! Really enjoying the issue so far. What an opener from Jordan Castro. And then to see Hannah Rose Thomas/Malcolm Guite talking about form. Excited to read your piece in full.
I agree with you wholeheartedly❕Just look at how far afield Justin Welbey, the head of the Church of England has gone by trying to in effect, serve 2 masters, God and the political zeitgeist. He is so focused on the political crusade that he is loosing his flock in record numbers. He forgets he is NOT man elected politician, he has been GIVEN a gift from God to lead Her Church. My personal belief on the matter is that he used to be a very high up executive for an oil and petroleum company, and he is USING the church to serve out his penance for that position and to write what he believes his moral wrongs were. Again that shows the hubris of the man that he feels the church is there for his use to work out his personal issues instead of turning to the people of his congregation who need help from their God and he as the head of that church, should be solely and fully focussing on only that which is Godly, not the fleeting political triviality of the day, such as supporting Trans issues.
