The first sermon of the third decade was about how goods may be rightly gotten; this second sermon deals with how goods may be rightly used. And in thinking of this, Bullinger says right at the beginning, we must consider not just how not to defraud others — a purely negative reading of the commandment against theft — but also how we may “do good to al men.” This too, as the heading of the Latin edition makes clear, falls under the eighth commandment of the Decalogue.
